Sortem for accountants
File organisation for accountants and bookkeepers
Clients send records in every format imaginable, often all at once near a deadline. Sortem helps you turn a folder of mixed receipts, statements and invoices into a tidy structure by client and year — and you review the plan before anything changes.
Available for Windows 10 and Windows 11. macOS coming soon. Paid features require a subscription.
Where the time goes
Records come in as scans, phone photos, exported PDFs and spreadsheets with names that rarely help: scan0012.pdf, Document (3).pdf, WhatsApp Image… Before the real work starts, someone has to sort them by client, period and document type.
Doing that by hand is slow and easy to get wrong, and the rules are usually the same every time. That repeatable structure is what you can describe to Sortem once.
Typical files
- Receipts and expense photos
- Sales and purchase invoices
- Bank and credit card statements
- Payroll reports
- Tax returns and computations
- Engagement letters and correspondence
How Sortem fits your workflow
Choose a folder, tell Sortem what you want, review the proposed changes and approve them. Supported actions can be reversed with Undo.
Process a client's year-end pack
Point Sortem at the folder a client sent and have it split everything into the folders you already use.
Rename unhelpful scans
Give scans consistent names. Optional content-aware renaming can help with meaningless file names — only if you switch it on.
Keep an inbox folder tidy
Use a Smart Folder on the folder where client uploads land, so files are filed using your rules.
